Covenant Is Your Guarantee
“And he said, Lord GOD, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it? And He said unto him, Take me an heifer of three years old, and a she goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon… In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river the river Euphrates”
Genesis 15:8-9, 18
Often times we get discouraged when we
have stood in faith for a very long time waiting on God for the
manifestation of a promise. We want to know for sure that it will still
happen in our lives. If you are in this position, you are not the first
to feel that way, Abram, who today is called the father of faith started
out that way.
Abram asked God to show him how he will
know that what He promised will happen when he got discouraged. In our
text you will notice that God answered him in a strange way God bound
Himself by a covenant. Covenant is not like contract that is for a
period of time. It is binding for life; it is permanent. In Bible days
covenant involves the blood of ram or goat that binds the two partners
for life. It meant that both parties were obligated to protect and to
provide for each other. Whatever belonged to you was your partner’s and
whatever belonged to your partner was yours. The one who benefited most
was the lesser or poorer partner.
Today, we are in covenant with God because
of the blood of Jesus. We have nothing to offer God. God the richest
and the most powerful being in the universe has everything to offer us.
Yet, God has bound Himself to an irrevocable covenant that guarantees us
His blessings and provision in life. You can be rest assured that
whatever you have asked Him will happen. It shall come to pass.
